About us
MECSEK-ÖKO Környezetvédelmi Zrt. is a private limited company engaged in the full remediation of the damage caused to the environment by the uranium ore mining industry, the shutdown and remediation of the non-ferrous metal mines in the Mátra Hills, as well as subsequent site reutilisation.In a few years' time we will be proud to say that we have accomplished the formidable tasks of decommissioning the former uranium mine sites and closing down the non-ferrous metal mines in Gyöngyösoroszi according to plan, having exhibited a responsible work ethic and through the use of effective methods.

MECSEK-ÖKO Zrt. as the legal successor of the former Mecsek Ore Mining Company (MÉV, since 1955) was founded in 2004. The founder and the sole owner of the company is Magyar Nemzeti Vagyonkezelő Zrt. (Hungarian National Property Management Private Limited Company).
MECSEK-ÖKO's past
Between 1955 and 1997, the core activity of the legal predecessor of MECSEK-ÖKO Zrt. was uranium ore mining. Mining and ore processing were replaced by activities related to the shutdown of mines and the remediation of the affected areas. The environmental heritage of uranium ore mining included mines, waste rock piles, contaminated soil, as well as buildings, equipment, one mill, heap leaching sites and two large tailings ponds.
MECSEK-ÖKO's present
MECSEK-ÖKO Zrt has a staff of nearly 140, many of whom are university graduates with degrees and experience in mining, geology, hydrogeology, geophysics, chemical engineering, energetics, environmental protection and remediation, cartography, soil mechanics and project management. We have built an extended professional network comprising domestic specialist businesses, the majority of research institutes of universities and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and an increasing number of international contacts.
The outstanding quality of our activities is confirmed by the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Certificates.
